Our customer’s device went from an IPX-0 to an IPX-5 rating. Their service life specialty devices extensively exposed to water went from 30 days to 1+ year.

Problem


Mobile handheld devices are subject to inadvertent liquid exposures from spills and other so-called accidents. Specifically, in the exercise gym, small radio transmitters only had a two-week survivability.


Solution


IST and our customer selected a hydrophobic plasma deposited polymer coating in IST’s Blue Lantern. The Blue Lantern’s low entry equipment price and its tunable process allow for a protective conformal coating.
